New York State Forage Exchange Available to Producers Buying and Selling Forages
Amy Barkley, Livestock Specialist
Southwest New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Program
The New York Forage Exchange is a tool developed by Cornell Cooperative Extension, providing a platform to connect buyers and sellers of forages. Corn and hay are the two main categories to choose from, with sub-categories including forage type, harvest date, volume, format (large round, small square, by the ton, etc), and price. The webpage can be found at https://nysforageexchange.com/
Those interested in purchasing forages may review all listings, or search for specific products within a certain distance from a chosen location.
For those interested in selling forages, this 5-minute informational video goes through how to post an ad on the website. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNPjSIPLrxM&feature=youtu.be Note that this exchange is a moderated platform, meaning that all ads posted will be reviewed daily for approval. While this means it may take up to 24 hours for an ad you create to be posted, it also allows for no spam ads to be posted and a better experience for both the buyer and the seller.
The information presented in the Forage Exchange is from voluntary ad placement that is open to anyone in the state. Placement of ads on this site does not assume endorsement for any specific product or farm by Cornell Cooperative Extension.
